OnePlus Hints at Upcoming Foldable Phone Release Date
OnePlus has already confirmed that its foldable phone will launch this year. The OnePlus Open is a product rumored to launch in October and now reports suggest that the company could unveil the product on October 19, which is less than a month away. The OnePlus Open is said to be a challenger to Samsung’s foldable lineup, but the company seems to be taking a different route when it comes to pricing the product.
OnePlus first announced its foldable goal with the launch of the OnePlus 11 series earlier this year in India. The company has also said that the Open foldable will be launched in countries like India, which is one of its most important markets.
The company had to postpone the launch of its foldable device. It is assumed that the company has made a last-minute decision to switch its display supplier from BOE to using Samsung panels. It’s likely that OnePlus felt the performance of the BOE display was in line with its product, and therefore using a Samsung panel seemed like an obvious decision.
It has also been reported that OnePlus will launch its foldable at a lower price than the Galaxy Z Fold 5 model, which was reported to be over Rs 1.5 lakh in India this year. It’s likely that OnePlus is aware that the brand can’t afford to compete on price with brands like Samsung that have the resources and expertise to operate at a higher level.
The OnePlus Open leaks have given us a good idea of the company’s focus now that it’s expected to be powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. OnePlus could opt for a 2K AMOLED screen courtesy of Samsung, which should offer a 120Hz refresh rate. OnePlus could use its Hasselblad partnership to power the cameras, but more importantly, pack a larger battery that supports fast charging.
